Band of the RMVCC Plymouth

Inspiring Excellence Through Music and Discipline!

Musical Training has been part of the RMVCC syllabus since the early 1900s and the Band of the RMVCC Plymouth was formed to provide cadets with opportunities to develop musical talent while supporting ceremonial and public engagements. Working closely with the Royal Marines Band Service and local communities, the band has become an important ambassador for the Volunteer Cadet Corps, showcasing the discipline, professionalism and teamwork that music can inspire.

Band of the RMVCC Plymouth

The Bands of the Royal Marines Volunteer Cadet Corps offer young people aged 9 to 16 the opportunity to develop musical ability, confidence and teamwork in a unique military musical environment. Cadets may remain with the VCC until their 18th birthday and are welcomed regardless of their previous musical experience. Whether joining as a complete beginner or an accomplished musician, every cadet is supported in developing their skills and reaching their full potential.

Cadets can choose to perform as part of the main band on brass, woodwind or percussion instruments, or join the Corps of Drums. Where required, instruments can be provided on loan, along with all military and ceremonial uniforms. Our experienced instructional staff deliver group tuition and provide opportunities for regular practice during cadet evenings. While the VCC supports musical development, cadets are encouraged to undertake formal music lessons alongside their cadet training to maximise their progress and enjoyment.

In addition to regular training nights, our bands perform extensively throughout the year, proudly wearing the traditional ceremonial blue uniform of the Bands of His Majesty's Royal Marines - an honour granted to very few organisations outside of the Royal Marines Band Service. Through these performances, cadets develop confidence, discipline and professionalism while representing the Volunteer Cadet Corps at local, regional and national events.

Our bands have earned an excellent reputation and regularly support Armed Forces Day celebrations, Remembrance commemorations, civic parades, concerts and major Volunteer Cadet Corps events. These performances provide cadets with memorable experiences and the opportunity to perform before a wide range of audiences while contributing to their local communities.

While music remains at the heart of everything we do, band cadets also enjoy the full range of opportunities available across the Volunteer Cadet Corps. This includes participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, first aid training, leadership development, residential camps, social activities and educational visits. Recent opportunities have included trips to watch the Bands of His Majesty's Royal Marines perform, giving cadets valuable insight into military music at the highest level.

Through music, performance and adventure, the Bands of the Volunteer Cadet Corps provide a rewarding and distinctive cadet experience, helping young people develop skills, friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

Be Worthy.
