Volunteer Vacancies

We have some exciting adult volunteer vacancies in the VCC. These are open to suitably qualified VCC or other UK cadet force personnel, regular and reserve Service personnel, or new volunteers with relevant qualifications or experience. 
 

Being a cadet force adult volunteer is rewarding and has so many benefits:

Head of Training - Headquarters VCC

We’re looking for Head of Training in the Volunteer Cadet Corps.

 

This is a key VCC senior leadership team position managing the delivery of our training syllabus and activities, championing CFAV development and overseeing the safety of our activities.

 

This volunteer role, fourth-in-command of the VCC and reporting to the Deputy Commander, will ideally be based from our HQ in Portsmouth, but the successful applicant could be based elsewhere. Some travel to visit our units will be required (reasonable expenses paid).

 

Applications for Head of Training are welcome from current senior CFAVs in all UK cadet forces plus serving and retired armed forces personnel. We are ideally looking for someone of WO2 rank or above with good IT literacy and a willingness to really commit to this pivotal role.

Commanding Officer - Portsmouth Division RMVCC

The VCC is now looking for a new Commanding Officer for our Portsmouth Division RMVCC Unit. This adult volunteer role is responsible for ensuring all activities are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with extant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. The CO must be committed and able to lead and motivate their team for the safety and safeguarding of all their unit personnel whilst upholding the standards and ethos of the VCC.

 

The unit is based in Portsmouth so ideally the successful applicant either lives in this area or is able and willing to travel on a twice-weekly basis. Additionally, some activities take place during weekends where the CO would often be expected to attend. Travel to other VCC units and or HQVCC on an occasional basis will also be required. Reasonable travel expenses will be refunded in accordance with the VCC’s travel and expenses policy.

Regional Officer (West) – Headquarters VCC

The VCC has three units in its West Region (covering Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and South Wales) and we have ambitious plans to open new units in the coming years.  We are therefore seeking a senior volunteer to provide management support to our current units, ensure they are run compliantly, deal with escalated issues, liaise with regional stakeholders and seek opportunities for expansion.

 

This is a senior uniformed volunteer role based in region and would suit someone with a cadet forces, regular or reserve forces, or other youth leadership background. A detailed Terms of Reference (ToR) is available here.

Shooting Co-Ordinator – Headquarters VCC

We are looking for an experienced uniformed cadet force adult volunteer, either from within the VCC or from another UK cadet force to be the Shooting Co-Ordinator in HQVCC. This role will be responsible for overseeing our shooting training and competitions throughout the VCC. The successful applicant will liaise closely with VCC units and help them deliver a safe, compliant and exciting shooting cadet experience, all in line with MOD regulations. VCC shooting includes air rifles, small-bore (0.22) and cadet weapon systems (5.56). Qualification as a RCO would be preferred, and the successful applicant will be asked to champion the gaining of shooting and range qualifications amongst other CFAVs.

The rank range for this role is PO/Sgt to SLt/Lt, and the role will report into Executive Officer (Training).

Cadet Force Adult Volunteers – All VCC Units

We’re looking for more adult volunteers to join our cadet units around the country and help deliver a safe, exciting and enjoyable cadet experience. You don’t need former military service, just be aged 18 to 65 and willing to champion our values and regulations – but above all be committed to the safety, welfare and development of our cadets. You can be uniformed or non-uniformed, and choose from roles ranging from training our cadets to carrying out unit administration or helping in the stores.

Onboarding and Induction

We will ask you to under go background and criminal record checks, and undertake some basic training (mostly on safeguarding, security and safety) upon joining and annually thereafter – all designed to help keep our cadets safe and well. You will join other new volunteers through our onboarding and induction process, and then be ready to help deliver the cadet experience and seek opportunities to acquire new skills and qualifications.
