Safeguarding

If you have any concern relating to immediate risk or harm to one of our cadets, or any child or young person, please report it directly to the police on 999 or 101.

We aim to create a space where young people from all backgrounds can come together, learn new life skills, make new friends, and reach their full potential.

Whilst we focus on ensuring that we deliver unique experiences and opportunities, looking after the health, safety and wellbeing of our Cadets and Adult Volunteers is an absolute priority. That’s why we have strict processes, procedures, and policies in place to protect our cadet community.

For parents and carers, we’ve provided detailed information to address common questions about how we ensure safety and wellbeing within the Volunteer Cadet Corps.

Safeguarding Cadets

At the Volunteer Cadet Corps, we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our cadets. Safeguarding and protecting everyone in our community is our top priority, alongside promoting and supporting both physical and mental wellbeing. We sub-contract the Army Cadet Safeguarding Hub to manage and investigate all safeguarding incidents within the VCC.

We strive continuously to maintain our status as a trusted and esteemed youth organisation, safeguarding our cadets, volunteers, and staff from any harm or discrimination. This commitment aligns with the MOD's eight safeguarding standards outlined in their Safeguarding Framework.

A comprehensive safer recruitment process is used in the selection of volunteers, with every candidate undergoing an enhanced disclosure check when they join (provided by the Disclosure and Barring Service in England and Wales, Disclosure Scotland, or Access Northern Ireland when based in these home nations) before they can train and lead our cadets. All our volunteers also complete thorough safeguarding training and induction packages upon joining the VCC, along with annual refresher training and wider safeguarding assurance activities.

The Volunteer Cadet Corps take all concerns raised to us seriously regardless of the severity of the incident, especially when they are about the safeguarding of one of our cadets. The Army Cadet Safeguarding Hub (ACSH) serves as the central reporting point for safeguarding concerns. This team, separate from local cadet leadership, evaluates safeguarding reports and ensures that actions taken prioritise the safeguarding of children above all else.

To report a safeguarding concern to the ACSH, you can click ‘Submit an Incident Report’ below. The referral will then be actioned by our specialist team of Safeguarding Case Workers, who will decide the best course of action, whilst communicating the referral with the necessary personnel. If you need to contact our Army Cadet Safeguarding Hub, please complete the Contact Us form.

Several organisations may also be able to offer you help or advice if you have questions, such as the NSPCC’s Childline website.
