Meet the Challenge

We accept applications for new recruits from anyone under the age of 17.  You don’t have to wait until your child is 9 to apply as we have many younger children on our waiting list ready to be called forward for the next recruit intake after their 9th birthday.

Both the Royal Marines Cadets and Royal Naval Cadets of the VCC need adult volunteers with a wide variety of talent, from military skills, musical abilities, basic administration, DIY and IT experience.  Volunteers can also earn useful skills and experience by being on our staff.  All we ask is that our adult volunteers live up to our ethos and values, are committed to the welfare and development of our cadets, and are able to give up the spare time they offer when applying.

There are two categories of cadet force adult volunteer (CFAV) in the VCC:

  • Support Staff  These volunteers, who do not wear uniform, provide much needed support such as stores assistants, catering assistants and administration staff.  Many are introduced to the VCC when a son or daughter joins, indeed quite often both the parents and their child will join a unit- husband and wife teams are common.  A three-month probationary period is required for all Support Staff, as is a criminal records check.
  • Uniformed Staff  This category includes our command, instructing and specialised support staff, and form the principal cadre of our operational team.  The application and probationary process is the same but with a probationary period of six months.

All CFAVs are unpaid volunteers, but the rewards of helping our young cadets and contributing to the local community far outweigh any monetary value.

We look forward to hearing from you, and welcome no obligation enquiries.  Should you require any further information or would like to visit your nearest VCC unit please see our Contact Us page or make contact via the individual unit pages.
