Established in 1904, the Plymouth Division stands as one of the pioneering units within RMVCC, maintaining its home at RM Stonehouse, the historic bastion of the Royal Marines in Plymouth. Nestled amidst this esteemed environment, the unit receives robust support from 30 Commando IX Group RM, and Headquarters 3 Commando Brigade RM, fostering an environment of tradition and excellence.
Cadets in Plymouth actively engage in a spectrum of RMC training and activities, capitalizing on the proximity of Dartmoor, a mere 30-minute drive away. This expansive and rugged terrain, extensively utilized by the Royal Marines, offers our cadets a glimpse into the rigorous training regimen of Royal Marines Commandos. They partake in overnight stays on the moor, honing essential field survival skills under adult supervision—a true test of resilience and fortitude amid nature's elements. For those who relish challenges, including the rain, this is an ideal environment to thrive.
Aligned with our other RMVCC Divisions, our recruits undergo an intensive 6-month basic training curriculum. From mastering drill precision to acquiring expertise in map reading, navigation, first aid, field craft, and Corps history, this comprehensive training culminates in a challenging weekend exercise on Dartmoor. Here, their field skills are rigorously evaluated, culminating in a Pass Out parade—a momentous occasion celebrated among beaming family and friends. The most outstanding recruit is honored with the prestigious Belle Isle Award, a testament to their exceptional dedication and proficiency.
Following their Pass Out, our cadets progress into specialized routes, choosing either the General Duties Training or Musical Training paths, fostering their growth and expertise within the Corps.
